Films and TV shows that feel like The Ecstasy of Gold by Ennio Morricone

A feverish, euphoric run through a vast graveyard in search of buried treasure, where greed, desperation and operatic grandeur build to a breathless climax.

1. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966): The song's home: Tuco sprints through Sad Hill searching for the grave holding the gold, leading to the three-way standoff.
2. Once Upon a Time in the West (1968): Another Leone-Morricone epic with mythic scale, operatic score and slow-burning showdowns.
3. A Fistful of Dollars (1964): The birth of the spaghetti western, with Eastwood's nameless gunslinger and Morricone's idiosyncratic sound.
4. For a Few Dollars More (1965): Bounty hunters, tension and a famous musical-watch duel in the same stylised Leone world.
5. Django Unchained (2012): Tarantino's modern western borrows Morricone's music and the swaggering revenge-and-bounty spirit.
6. The Hateful Eight (2015): Morricone won an Oscar for this score of paranoia, greed and standoffs in a snowbound western.
7. Once Upon a Time in America (1984): Leone's sweeping, elegiac epic with another unforgettable Morricone score about ambition and betrayal.
8. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948): The classic tale of gold fever turning men feverish and paranoid.
